Late to the Party
With this entry, I’m taking my first step into the adventure of blogging. As is obvious from how late I am to the party, I’m not doing this because it’s popular or considered the thing to do. Though, from my view of the world, it certainly appears to be both. No, I’m walking into this world because I’ve come to believe that it falls clearly in the bull’s-eye of my mission. In fact, it now appears to me that refusing to enter this world would severely limit the impact of my mission.
For the record, my goal isn’t to be the best or most popular blogger in the world. This would be a stupid goal for a minimum of two reasons…
First: It’s not in the realm of possibility. There are some great bloggers out there, both secular and spiritual, that are making a profound impact. I’m a thankful beneficiary of their significant work.
Second: And of far greater significance, my mission in life and ministry has nothing to do with being the best or most popular. To allow for this to creep into either my motivation or purpose for blogging, or any other pursuit for that matter, would be ludicrous. (Though, to be totally honest, I do in every area of my life and ministry constantly struggle with and have to beat down my very unholy competitive drive. I’m sure it will prove to be the same in this adventure.)
To the best of my ability, though I’m sure I’ll have the occasional rant that drifts off plot, the thoughts that I share in this blog will be to advance the mission I feel God has called me to in life and ministry. In order for you to hold me accountable to this standard, it’s only fair that I share those with you. (I withhold commentary on these for now because I’m sure that I will parse them out a little in future blogs.)
My Life Purpose: to be a man of God who reflects, reveals, and represents Christ in every aspect of my life.
My Ministry Purpose: to be a man of God who is a force for Christ in leading the church to prevail.
It’s my prayer that my future musings will in some way encourage, help, resource, inspire, motivate, move, prepare, and/or challenge you as you seek to more fully experience Christ and more effectively invest yourself in expanding God’s Kingdom.

Your life purpose statement is revelatory and expansive. Refecting Christ – Shining light and being Jesus to those who are in your circle of influence. Revealing Christ – Sharing his mind as he reveals himself to you in Scripture and in experience. Representing Christ – As his ambassador and agent for sharing his mission to the world. Hmmm…this is thought provoking for sure. I’m going to work on My life purpose as well. I might turn out similar to yours…LOL!

is there is a way to set up an rss feed of your blog so people can read it from their Google reader, etc? That would be helpful!

This is great! I look forward to your blogs, for your teachings, inspiration, and thoughts. I grew up Catholic where the priest was on a pedestal, and never revealed his struggles. I appreciate the fact that you divulge your struggles, and shortcomings, and how you approach and handle them. I’m not sure how to explain the difference I feel knowing my spiritual teacher is just as real as the rest of us? I just know that it is inspirational, rather than feeling like I could never measure up to someone like a priest, who appears to have all the answers. So thank you for sharing!
I too just entered this new world. I have a God given purpose as well. I have spent my life in senior care & advocacy, and God has laid some things on my heart related to seniors. My blog is to educate & inform seniors and their families, prior to a health crisis. I have met countless families in crisis that have no idea what to do or where to turn. My prayer is to help as many families as possible with knowledge and resources so their anxiety and stress are lessened if a life changing event occurs. A comment on your blog isn’t exactly the place to talk about mine, but it is with a pure heart I want to help those in need. So here is my blog http://angiltarachrn.blogspot.com/2009/02/rewritten-why-im-bloggingit-started.html
I pray we’ll both reach people in a positive, powerful and meaningful way.
God Bless you for your life changing work!

Fashionably Late is more culturally relevant than First One There! I’m honored to have been a part of your Discovery Island staff and thrilled to be able to follow you & NRC in this new way. Enjoy the space to rant & rabbit trail. Love from VA .
